BIOGRAPHY

William McCarron

William McCarron was born in Kelty, Fife, Scotland on March 21, 1940. He immigrated to the United States with his brother and parents in 1947 and became a citizen in 1954. After graduation from Warwick High School in Newport News, Virginia he then successfully graduated from Frederick College in Portsmouth, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in US History in January 1964 and then entered the United States Army under the College Option Program and on completion of Infantry Officer Candidate Course was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Infantry and went on to serve over 24 years retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served as an infantry Platoon Leader and Executive Officer with B Company, 1st Battalion (ABN), 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division and as a Military Advisor in the Mekong Delta in the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam Conflict. He also served in various assignments throughout the United States and the Pacific Theater during his career. His awards include the Silver Star for Gallantry, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars for meritorious service and various other awards and decorations during his service to the United States. He was also a parachutist and a US army Ranger. On retiring from the Army he spent and additional 11 years with the Department of Defense as a Senior Intelligence Officer (Advisor) before permanently retiring in 1999. He was married to his wife Connie for 50 years prior to her death in 2017. He has three sons, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He lives in Hartwell, Georgia.
